To be fair, that sounds like one of those instances that is massively skewed by a subset of the data. Less developed countries tend to have more child marriage, which massively throw off the stats, and are not indicative (necessarily) of age gaps among adult relationships.
True if it's focused only on children but in general attractiveness men have a more forgiving drop off.

Most relationships I see, particularly in long term stages, are within 2-4 year age differences.
