Do you think woke people would accept it if you made a game set in a traditional african village and for some reason there were White people in african clothes just wondering about like they belong there? (Remember they complained about White actors in the crowd in the Aladdin live action movie https://archive.ph/84oi2)
Thats what i think when i see some games that randomly shove black npcs in East Asian or European settings.
Rune factory 6 (edit: sorry i meant Rune factory Guardians of Azuma) has black npcs despite being set in a feudal Japan setting. (and also lgbt but i already knew they had gone woke since rune factory 5 when they added gay marriage in that one too when the localizers asked them to)
Edit: lol redditors downvoting me.
What about "fantasy" settings with themes based on real locations? Like fantasy medieval settings. Is that what Rune Factory is? That always gives the developers an easy cop-out, especially when it's high fantasy with dragons and magick. "It's not real bro!"
Dishonored 2 just about hit my limit for the idea, even though it didn't hurt the gameplay to have random black guards. Dishonored 1 had a fictional Africa in the lore, but AFAIK Dishonored 2 never explained why people from there were in Karnaca or how they could be soldiers. It didn't really HAVE to either, but it takes you out of the setting for a moment. Out of universe we knew the real reason. Picture caption: "Meet some of Karnaca's finest guards".
i dont care if its "fantasy" and not real and neither do they. Like i said , ask them if they are ok with White npcs wondering around in African clothes in an African looking setting.
Actually exclusively White NPCs in an African looking setting would be fine. That is if you don't strive to be historically accurate.
Ethnic heterogeneity in a setting where it makes no sense is what the actual problem is. Shit needs to be explainable and 'duuuuuuh magic!" is not an explanation as to why an isolated medieval society looks like modern day Los Angeles.
Which is why the Fremen in Dunc pissed me off. It's not the fact that they predictably decided that they needed to be non-White. It's the fact that they weren't even racially homogeneous.
Its fine to YOU , but It wouldnt be fine to woke people. it only goes one way. You can shove black people in to White or East asian settings but you can't shove White people in to an African setting without woke people complaining about it.
Yeah I know. I wasn't talking about woke people. I was talking about myself.
I do not support diverse NPCs at all. Regardless if its "fantasy" or not If there must be different races in a game, then it needs to be a planet full of black people and a planet full of White people, i do not like settings where everyone is mixed up, its just a psyop promoting the Kalergi plan.
What is that supposed to mean? If you have a game or any piece of media that spans an entire world how the fuck are multiple races and species a psyop promoting the Kalergi plan?
Is Africa, Europe, Asia, America and Australia a psyop?
If I had to play Devil's Advocate for Dishonored 2, you could argue that the population of blacks in Karnaca could make sense with the city being very port heavy. That said, so was Dunwall, and you didn't have the dynamic there. Still doesn't necessarily explain the higher ranking positions though, unless we're suggesting it's just a more ""modern"" resemblance, rather than anything resembling a coherent, structured lore.
Yes that's exactly what I did - quickly came up with a reasonable mental rationale for their presence. I lost suspension of disbelief, but only for a moment.
i dont mind fantasy worlds that have lands where black people live. and i'm fine with the rare person of those lands coming to other lands if it makes sense.
witcher 1 is an example with Azar Javed. far away land, sorcerer (read powerful).
random people being black? okay you require a roman like empire.
