That's useful for two things. Inciting regime change through incredible violence. Keeping the population quiet through fear.

You're in the latter country. They only care about your money. They feed you garbage food and bad news to keep you depressed and afraid. They undervalue your labor and perpetuate cancel culture to inure you to them. Any money you manage to "take home" ultimately comes back to them anyways.

Otherwise it's stories about rape and murder or religious differences until one region invades and punishes another. This is far easier if there are two different racial groups in these regions. Then in that power vacuum you can use your infiltrated military assets to take over the government and "restore order."
