I noticed just after writing the comment that I forgot to also mention being previously occupied but I figured this will suffice. Geopolitics sure, but that's a double edged sword, it's good to wield influence on the global scene but that comes with a lot of drawbacks which are detrimental, as for culture, Greek culture is very much relevant in Greece, I don't really think a Greek guy enjoying his culture cares if his culture is relevant 2000km away.
