It was never a fallacy in the way leftoids liked to claim in order to deflect. They would have you believe that long chains of cause and effect do not exist because it's inconvenient for them. The reason its an informal fallacy is because merely saying "A therefore Z" does nothing to prove why it is so.
The problem in the context of political discussions is those types of things are generally impossible to empirically prove. You either get it or you don't, so leftists either flat out don't understand or just feign ignorance.
