Some Canadian distilleries are making decent single-malts now based on Scottish methods, and others are making bourbon. Some of those are good, but expensive because they don't have the rep to create mass demand, so supply is limited. "Canadian" whiskey is rye, which is universally terrible.
The "Crown Royal" rye pictured above is actually really good, in my opinion. It's a brand that offers a couple variations too, like some more aged ones, or peach or apple-flavoured ones.
