...and just like I suspected, the image there doesn't have the game's title, which is why the image for this thread has the little selection box highlighting the game logo: because it's a screenshot taken from some image editing software where they added the logo to the image.
So yeah, still an edited image although the baseline is from the company itself...assuming of course that the collection of images taken from a reddit thread is legit, which is of course subject to the exact same scrutiny I apply to the image for this thread.
So back to square one after all.
But hey, good on you for making the effort to hunt it down. Not even being facetious when I say that.
The fact that it's quite clearly from some photo editing software should trip some alarm bells for people that it might not be legitimate, doubly so in the age of rapidly advancing AI image generation. Everyone had a good yuck about how AI could never get hands right, but that's stopped being an issue for a while now. Why shouldn't I suspect some random unsourced image of being a fabrication? Or should I just uncritically accept all those images of Trump saving kittens from Haitian barbeques the same way I'm supposed to uncritically accept this image?
I swear there used to be a modicum of skepticism and critical analysis among the denizens who frequented KotakuInAction.
This is a screenshot from some photo editing software until someone can show me where this exists other than some random imgur URL.
Stop taking things at face value so easily.
The image of Ciri is from the Witcher 4 press kit: https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/1hd8zxx/slides_from_the_witcher_4_press_kit/

Ah, you meant that it's not the character is fake, but that this is not actually the cover of the game.
Then you do have a valid point.

cope and seethe
I agree, but the Ciri is real, it's just not a promotional still/logo image. I'm thinking it might be a specific still in a trailer.
Fextralife used this same image in one of their headers, so it's definitely not some 'chuds trying to mock stunning and brave women' thing.
So, as portrayed it's not real (it's not a logo/splash art), but in another sense it is real.
