Well, a large part of it is that when we actually attempted to advertise our existence, the media ran a massive smear campaign to conflate "alt-right" with actual Nazis.
Still hilarious to me how many people they managed to convince that fascism is a right wing ideology
Public education is full of lies and propaganda, and has been for several decades at a minimum.
