Got some spare time and needed a break from the sodium distribution from the return of the American Emperor so thought I'd share some stuff I've been reading.
But unlike doing lists like in the past, I want you to say if theres a genre or story type you're interested in reading and I'll see if I can recommend you something good. Like if you want a story on revenge, regression, fantasy, sci fi, comedy, that has great art etc and I'll try to include how often it is updated or if it's completed.
A bit of disclosure, I don't really read romance, horror or slice of life so might need to ask others on that.
This is a very good idea. You'll probably get a lot of takers.
My advice would be to sort your list by genre (Like action, sci-fi, etc) so people can take a look at your recommendations based on what they're into.
I always recommend things from the traditional animation era, myself. Doesn't really matter what, since it's all pretty good.
Next time I'll probably do that, though my regression genre will be LOOOONNG
Koreans love the ability to go back and fix mistakes a lot as a fantasy lol. I'd have to seperate by one based in a school, fantasy, dungeons wait...crap that one is a lot too!
what you got for isekai slop
Depends, you actually want slop or do you want me to give you something that turns out to be cocaine lol
lets go for both, but the good slop
I don't have truly awful shit as I don't subject myself to it, I ain't paid to lol. But I got the mediocre then that stuff that makes you beg for the next chapter:
The average:
Let's Buy the Land And Cultivate in Different World: ongoing infrequent release: title says it all, guy gets summoned to another world, given a gift that when he gets there everyone thinks is useless, sent away but turns out he's op. It's a nothing new but entertaining
The unexpected:
I Got a New Skill Every Time I Was Exiled, and After 100 Different Worlds, I Was Unmatched: ongoing infrequent release: This one caught me by surprise with it's twists, characters and art, it's really good and I don't want to spoil it, try the first 3 chapters see if you like it.
The Ride-On King: ongoing infrequent release: They made a Putin parody Isakai, and it's actually fucking good! The MC is Putin and you cannot convince me otherwise.
The good shit:
The Greatest Estate Developer: ongoing weekly release: MC is Isakai'd into a story he was reading, into the trash 1st son of the main protagonist's Lord and he knows he's fucked if he follows the story so using his engineering skills from Korea as well as a xp system only he can see and use, he tries to change his failing Estate into a money maker so he can live on easy Street.
It's fucking hilarious, knows when to be serious at times but I haven't laughed so much as when a new chapter drops, plus the visual comedy with the faces is S tier.
first time reading manga, thanks for the recommendations, im about half way though the first The Greatest Estate Developer, its pretty good so far
Sci-fi, fantasy, or anything close to crime drama or procedural
Got 2 sci fi but updated very rarely and one great law one that seems on hiatus:
Mezametara saikyou soubi to uchuusen-mochi datta no de, ikkodate mezashite youhei toshite jiyuu ni ikitai (I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship, so I Became a Space Mercenary): guy gets Isakai'd into a space ship and becomes a freelance Mercenary for hire
The Galactic Navy Officer becomes an Adventurer: guy ejects from his badly damaged battle cruiser to an unknown planet, finding it almost medieval in technology but having magic. It does a nice mix of technology and magic.
This is the Law: our mc is stabbed to death by national security agents as he was investigating the president, the gods are pissed as this guy was meant to help balance the corrupt world so they regress him to a teenager with his memories and the power of reading memories by touching objects. Very focused on procedural and utilisation of law.
Those first two are fun reads.
Thanks!!
I have read the second one, ima take a look at the two others.
I would advise Battle Angel Alita and Ghost in the Shell - The Human Algorithm.
Thanks. I need to read that manga
Maybe I should stick with the lists given the amount of people asking lol
Oh well, let me recommend this one as this is a good read:
Star-Fostered Swordmaster, updated weekly: A young man living in the slums of a fantasy world with his childhood friend dreams of owning a sword and making a name for himself, he is forced to flee his home after a power struggle in the criminal underground and with a sword given to him by the friend he had to leave behind tries to not just understand the voice inside him but become a Knight
Extremely good art in this and heavily into the chivalry culture and duty.
Got any suggestions for the technological gap trope?
Examples that I've read and include what I'm talking about are like Gate, Summoned Japan, Zipang, and Gargantia. Drop a character or group into a technogically inferior area and let it play out.
Got one that might fit that bill that you haven't mentioned, though it's longer, a Manhua (Chinese) and a lot longer time to get going:
Release that Witch: ongoing infrequent release: our MC wakes up in the body of a prince who's at the bottom of the pecking order, in a nation on the brink of a succession crisis, in a border town that every winter is ravaged by demonic beasts and at the moment a witch (women who have magical gifts) is about to be executed as dictated by the powerful Church. He decides immediately to secretly save the witch who can control fire and instead employs her to use her powers to help advance the technology of his region using his knowledge to gain more power and influence.
It's a slower burn but it's interesting how he utilises the modern scientific knowledge he has now and the magic these witches have to advance his region like quickly advancing to guns, artillery and even warships.
Frieren (manga) is fantastic and all you fags sleeping on it are missing out.
My likes are all over the place. For Manga I like: The Girl from the Other Side, a school Sentai group where the villain turns out to be their best friend, Delicious in Dungeon, and the one where girls give tours through flooded mars. Oh, and I just finished Akira.
For videogames if there was a giant overworld like Zelda Breath of the Wild, but Castlevania and with different guns and cars I could use, surfing and skateboarding, with a bunch of historical and cultural things to study I would never stop playing. Especially if they kept opening up new lands every year.
TV shows are another all over the place. I watch Taskmaster and 8 out of Ten Cats does countdown. I do the rounds in my head as I watch. I like Gravity Falls, Over the Garden Wall, Mystery Incorporated or most things Scooby Doo. First two seasons of Supernatural when it was scary. Sentai, Kamen Rider, and various comic book shows. I've started watching all of old who again.
My favorite movies screw with reality like Mullholand Drive or Dark City or House of Flying Daggers. I dislike historical films because my wife yells at me when I correct the history. I straight up yelled at Wonder Woman because none of them actually spoke the languages they claimed.
Why am I writing all of this?
Eh, fun to share hobbies I guess lol
I actually had the opposite reaction on films with family though as they loved it when we watched The Death of Stalin and pointed out where it was true and the actual timeline of events.
Though that film was brilliant in it's own right and them speaking in their own accents than fake Russian accents was the best decision ever made.
I'll look the movie up.
Akumetsu if you wanna watch a guy fuck over corrupt government officials
Here my list.

Cool idea. Any good ecchi? I've not read a lot but I've read some of the classics.
I would make a joke claiming to be pure but I'm an atheist that looks up to Machiavelli, of course I'm fucking cultured!:
Reincarnation Colosseum - Using the Weakest Skills in Order to Defeat the Strongest Women and Create a Slave Harem: ongoing infrequent release: our gamer MC is summoned to another world with an ability to be a hero, unfortunately it's copy. Deemed useless he's thrown into the arena where you fight and loser is fucked into a sex slave as unlike real world, they CAN turn you into a chick and give the chicks dicks! But the MC is a gamer so knows how to turn things to his advantage.
Yuru Fuwa Noka No Moji Bake Skill: ongoing infrequent release: MC summoned to another world with others to be heros for some kingdom, his skill though is farming related. Deemed useless is abandoned by others in a forest but finds upon a cabin to live and grow things like carrots, he happens to be found by tiny hand size bunny girls that love his carrots that they introduce him to their queen who is his size and you know where I'm going with this he ploughs MORE than fields the funniest thing is how self aware it is at times like when he meets a dwarf girl who tries to have sex but he won't as she is sane size as a kid so she uses magic to grow taller. Then they fuck lol.
I'm always hungry for some good space based science fiction. Any suggestions? No Gundam stuff please, I already know what exists :)
I'd point to what I gave Smith as unfortunately not a lot of sci fi available. Seems a very under utilised genre at the moment.
