Usually the hard swerve into this level of Affirmative Action nonsense is what causes the franchise to fall to shit.
Instead this time its been shit for over a decade, and they are hoping this will be the one thing that pulls them from that muck. Hilarious really.
The process is actually pretty standard. Things hit a rough patch, start going downhill and instead of returning to their roots, franchises turn to DEI for easy bootstrap money thinking they just need a bit of a push to get them over the hump.
