And all of the "best games" in the series are the best because of factors completely unrelated to the stealth portion. Black Flag was famous for its boats and pirating. Odyssey was an open world action game with a fun protagonist.
Black Flag also had you play someone who wasn't an Assassin for the majority of the game. You're just a pirate so it makes sense that you run around getting into fights out in the open instead of quiet assassinations.

and yet it was literally only the first game in the series that was like that. The rest of the games were bloat and fluff.

That's why I stopped at the second one. Then first was good. The sequel was more of the same without further inspiration.
