The ‘studies’ and polls they use to convince them are usually kind of hilarious. Usually they’ll pick the most hardcore fans on the planet and ask them if having a female protagonist would deter them from buying the next issue of the comics they’ve been collecting all their lives. Most will say no. They then use that to argue the biggest fans want female protagonists, Skittles folk, and the like in their media.
