As someone else mentioned, apparently they've been very censorship-happy in past Olympics too, though. So it might not be inherently political, it might just be general dickishness.

They took down their own video of the opening ceremony on Youtube, too. This is more than just copyright.
Not only the opening ceremony, they're selectively removing various other videos too. And any active video where comments are open, they're just getting blasted. It's glorious.

They go really hard on this. The band, formerly known as The Olympic Hopefuls, had to change their name to The Hopefuls.
That said, given current year and current thing, I think they realized they overplayed their hand here and are trying to cover it up, under the guise of copyright claims.
They probably could have fought that in court but it's easier to just drop it.
I remember decades ago they sued the makers of the card game Legend of the Five Rings whos original logo was five linked rings in a star formation. The Olympic committee claimed they held exclusive ownership of any logo that contains five linked rings.
