Have they not seen how Sony repeatedly fucks any project they come into contact with? They're as bad as EA at this point for fuck's sake. Stupid, stupid fuckers, it's like when Battlebit came out and then they absolutely squandered their opportunity with zero real updates and clamping down on voice chat etc.
iirc Pocketpair is a company consisting of a few guys who are flying by the seat of their pants, so it's not surprising that they might have signed a contract without considering the implications fully
They worked hard and make very good money. ( Not made, make, since they keep developping Palworld and get more sales along the way. )
Seems like they didn't refuse an opportunity for a fat pile of cash and extra hands from Soyny. The ''extra hands'' will likely rot everything they touch though.
If the check was fat enough I'd probably say yes too and retire. But many independant developpers are very attached to, and love their work.
They got lucky with that game being the streamers game of the week, they're smart to cash out on a half finished pokemon rip off, It's not really a strong ip and it's unlikely they'll be able to top that with subsequent games.
Yeah, people are treating this like some grand betrayal by some superhero, when its almost certainly them taking the sale at the top of their value knowing full well they will never reach it again.
And unless they retroactively censor the game (possible, but not certainty) then you just need to not play their next one to avoid the cancer. They aren't some established company with dozens of beloved IPs now being lost.
It's sad because it goes to show that a lot of devs are purely in it for the cash grab and could not give a fuck about the games industry as they like to larp.
EA has been doing it for years before the regressive left started gaining influence in the corporate world due to globalist interference. Support of the regressive left is effectively a tactic corporatist jackasses use to weasel their way out of controversy related to anti-consumer practices, which is a major reason why that shit is getting worse along with technical advancement being an enabling factor.
I'm convinced EA was a BlackRock style coup on the games industry and the genesis of the GamerGate movement way before the likes of Zoe Quinn, she just brought all the corruption to the forefront the way she was literally whoring herself out. I just find it interesting that Sony has gone totally in lockstep with the agenda more recently.

Undoubtedly they got bags and bags of money, so stupid if they actually liked their product and wanted a future for it. Maybe not as much otherwise.

Purely-in for the cash or not, Palworld is a ''you get plenty for what you paied'' deal.
Soyny wil degrade quality from now on.
I can lament the devs selling-out, but frankly I'd probably say yes to a fat pile of cash in exchange for my project videogame.
It's not like there was a shortage of good independant games. If the devs sell-out, move-on to the next independant game.
