First ones off the top of my head would be UBIK by Phillip K Dick or either Stranger in a Strange Land or JOB by Heinlein.

where eugenics is good, the heroes are squares, and drug crimes are the same as high treason

I never watched it, but since the only adaptation I know of was from Japan in the 80s, you might actually get those parts.
