Black Death did that in Europe. Suddenly not only were there a shortage of tradesmen to do skilled labor, there was even a shortage of day laborers and tennant farmers.

Suddenly the poorest in society could not only sell their labor at a higher cost, they could negotiate better terms for the farm they rented.
