I guess it's emblematic of how tone deaf and corporate much of the DC Cinematic Universe was/is, that they didn't even bother looking into the history and meaning of the song, or the controversy of this cover version in Australia (it was used to advertise a bank, specifically Westpac, which subsequently got into significant strife for ripping off and screwing over consumers)...
Reminds me of when ... was it Zack Snider I think?
There was a zombie movie he did where they had to wall off Vegas. It had Dave Bautista in it. I can't even remember the name. It was a group of people tasked with stealing from the vault of a casino in zombie infested vegas before it got nuked to wipe the infestation off the map.
It was poorly shot, badly written, and I didn't 30 minutes into the movie before noping out. I skipped forward to the end to see if I was wasting my time or not. I was. The song that came up during the end credits was Zombie by the Cranberries. No one listened to the lyrics, or the meaning behind the song there either.
They used it in a zombie film because it had the word zombie in it.
So not only did I waste my time with it, but I was also disgusted by it. Double whammy.

Ah, Hollywood. When will they ever learn.
Damn good song, but yeah...
These game companies keep using hiphop/rap and music from the 90s.
I mean, that’s kind of what Blaxploitation was, no?
Albeit rap didn’t really exist in the early 70s, but conceptually… That’s basically what defines the genre.
The Wiz and Live and Let Die (yep, the Bond film) being notable examples…
There's also this one for NRMA, which... Makes even less sense, as the song is about a one night stand, and the lyrics... Just don't work.

2017/18 was a weird time, in ad land...
Less woke, but also much more emotionally manipulative than anything they've tried since, lol.
Here's the Westpac ad in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCBD8CLAiyg
It's very good. It's just a pity that it was used to promote such a morally bankrupt company, lol.

You expect Zach Snyder to understand irony? Good one lol
That's what you get for making ironic songs. If Bowie wanted people to understand him, he should have been genuine, now he's dated instead.
I'm only human after all
