step 1 is be more specific in what you want to 3d model, if you want to sculpt more flesh and fabric, we're going to look at zbrush. If you want more hard surface stuff but artistic, or you're wanting to rig stuff, blender. If you mean more the designing of parts for engineering, then we want CAD.
Once we know that we can give specific advice for each software. So what exactly are you wanting to do?
Primarily blender, secondarily zbrush. I basically wanna be able to make games that look like higher-end 5th gen stuff, like say Perfect Dark or Vagrant Story.
Blender is perfect for modeling, and it has great sculpting tools too and it is very optimized now, so it's good for high poly and low poly. If you want to make that PS1/N64 graphics then it's perfectly fine to model on Blender and texture on Substance Painter (Blender is terrible for texturing).
