To be fair, I like animes that contain loli characters, and almost always believe everything would be better if those characters were not lolis. So it's not an inherent contradiction.
Also, that "fvq" guy's tweet is so poorly worded I don't know what side he comes down on, but here's a rule of thumb:
"Free Speech Extremist" followed by Chad Yes? Hell yeah, you're alright!
"Free Speech Extremist" used as a dismissive pejorative? Go fuck yourself, you censorious little cretin.
Free speech "extremism" is the only real form of free speech.
I disagree with your part about making the characters better if they were not loli. Some characters just need to be for story reasons.
In general I think loli is just a nice canary in the coal mine, if people complain about it you know that they are tourists. Loli is also a great gatekeeping tool. Blue Archive gatekeeps itself by catering strongly to the lolicon demographic (though they're not the only ones that enjoy it).

Agreed, and there are cute (nonsexual) "lolis," but there are also plenty of over the top, obnoxious and more sexualized lolis that, at least for my own enjoyment, would be better of as not lolis. Not saying there are no good lolis, just that some animes I enjoy in spite of them.

Very fair, not everyone likes that and some is indeed over the top. The usual people hate ALL lolis, doesn't matter if its from CGDCT anime which have 0 sexualisation or something like monogatari.
I don't think I've ever actually heard someone say they're against free speech. But I can't count the number of times I've head "Of course I support free speech, but that doesn't include..."

Made In Abyss still has probably some of the best art and worldbuilding in manga ever, and I genuinely wish to explore its world more.
Unfortunately its main cast looks like it does, and not even in a "irrelevant artstyle distinction" way but in an actual "the children are nude and getting stripped" way, which makes it impossible to talk about or even enjoy at times.
