Now obviously, caveat, we all have our concerns about Milei, me included, but honestly? In terms of domestic policy he's doing everything I like so it was interesting waiting to see what was going to happen with Argentina. I kind of want to visit just to confirm how things are going in Argentina for myself because the leftists tried spamming about soup kitchens and chaos as they often do which instantly makes me suspicious.
This is the sort of thing I'm keeping an eye on generally at the moment. There's also the European Migration Pact which just recently passed and it seems to be part of the effort of the elites to spread the load of migrants and they're trying to force EU countries to accept everything or share the costs if they don't want to. I'm impatiently playing the waiting game at the moment and seeing what unfolds.
Since taking office, Milei has devalued the currency by more than 50%, halved the number of government ministries
I love how they keep repeating this lie, they neglect to mention the currency was already at that value to begin with it was just on the black market. All Milei did was bring that shit out into the open and quite a few people pointed this out when they were spamming it.
There are still massive debts Argentina has to pay off from many previous lenders before it will make any proper profit.
I remember 12 years ago when US hedge fund group NML Capital had the navy ship The Libertad seized at a port in Ghana because of 1 billion US dollars of debt unpaid to them.
This all goes back to 2001, when Argentina defaulted on roughly $100 billion in national debt. And there is plenty more too which is unpaid as well as more accrued debts since then.
To go from one of the top richest countries in the world to what it is now has taken generations of bad management and corrupt politicians lining their own pockets. For one of the biggest coastlines in the world so sell all of their fish to China and not see a return on that in any tangible way is quite telling.
Milei is taking important steps and it will take a long time, longer than his lifetime, to rectify is all. But hopefully it can once again stand tall and proud about its wealth of resources and educated people and be a voice of reason again.
But it needs to relax its socialist leanings. In 2012 a person could change their gender just by going to the courthouse with identification and sign off that they were now the other gender.
Look where that's got people outside of Argentina recently. Some progressive Left ideals need to be taken slowly, if at all.
A good friend of mine lived in Argentina when that was all going down. It was pretty bleak. They compared it to the worst of the military occupation.
Honestly I'd rather get shot at than live in a country that's permanently in decline. I know Argentina has been through way tougher times than the UK currently, however I feel simply looking at the numbers and the absolute state of the towns and cities we're well on the way to being as bad. The level of corruption is off the charts and everyone is draining the wealth of this country big time.
