Duke ends full-ride scholarship program for select Black students in wake of affirmative action ruling
The scholarship is named in honor of Reginaldo “Reggie” Howard, Duke’s first Black student government president who died in an automobile accident during his sophomore year in 1976.
Duke is a private university, but it does receive federal money by way of federal student loans. I suspect it gets other public money as well, but it’s not a public university.
As for other scholarships, no clue, but I’d hope no scholarship or opportunity is ever gated on someone’s race. If Asians get most scholarships, so be it.
A private scholarship outside of the school itself can be set up for anyone for any reason. You could have a scholarship for whoever has the nicest dog to showcase that year.
I was just saying if you can have a black only then you should have scholarships across the board. But I agree I’d rather see merit based
