50/50, with the recent example of Kyoto, the warranted xenophobia the Japanese naturally have may lead to a banning of foreigners except in certain areas or with guides essentially being kept on a leash.
I wouldn't even blame them if they did it, that's how bad things are, if you had asked me a couple of years ago I might have thought it was extreme. Nowadays I'd be sending messages of support and going don't ever let the globalists and foreigners shame you.
They've always had some restrictions on foreigners and I've never had reason to blame them. Years ago in Japan you would occasionally find an apartment that doesn't rent to foreigners, or see a "JAPANESE ONLY" sign outside a bar. It was rare, but people explained to me that foreigners (at that time usually Russians) always got drunk and loud and caused a scene and they don't want to deal with them. My natural reaction was "Heh yeah, fuckers ruined it for everyone", not "DATS RAYCIST!"
Chris Broad of AbroadInJapan is pretty based on his takes when it comes to this sort of thing because he tells it like it is thanks to him actually interacting with the Japanese and he doesn't live in the expat bubbles. Apparently another aspect is Japanese have been scammed by foreigners in the past because sometimes they rent an apartment for a month and then fuck off before the rent is due never to return I think that's how it works so that's another one I'm very sympathetic to.
I also hate the weed smokers that go abroad because you know they're fucking leftist hipsters too who don't give a shit about the country's laws and treat the place like it's their playground. I was doing some proper researching into how Japan deals with crime and came across this utter douchebag and I think he was somebody who got caught possessing weed and this whole documentary was him moaning about how tough Japanese prisons were.
There's really certain shit you should always research before ever visiting another country and basic laws and crime rates is one of them. The funny thing is Americans getting caught with weed abroad seems to be happening enough it's making news because there was that American douchebag awhile back who got traded for the weapons dealer at the expense of some actual military asset and that was over weed as well.
I enjoy cannabis and I'm definitely not a left wing idiot. But that's also why for the 5 years I lived in Asia -- I didn't use any. Respect the country where you live -- it is a very simple thing that most westerners don't understand.
