Its closer to Vermintide with less RPG elements honestly. Jump into short missions with friends or randos, do more objectives for higher rewards, unlock cosmetics after the initial surge.
Its 100% just a flavor of the month popular because its a funny game to yell meme lines at while coop with your friends. Which isn't a bad thing, but it ain't that deep either.
I only saw a stream of it for a short amount of time, and whatever genre Vermintide is, that's the impression I got too.
When I think about it, if I had friends to play shit with, I actually kinda think something like Vermintide would be something I'd want to play with them.
Vermintide 2 was a pretty solid game on release, that just got worse with each patch and content added. It was good enough that even random matchmaking was worth doing until you needed top level difficulty.
But the important thing it did right, that Helldivers doesn't, is that it allowed bots to fill your group if you didn't have a full party. So even if it was just 2 of you, you could mostly play just fine.
Helldivers is 100% a "bring 2-3 friends or don't bother" type of coop game.
I actually got the base game of Vermintide 2 for free, and for a bit, it was starting to look kinda fun. But like I said, not really many gamer friends to have that kind of fun with, and it starts to lose appeal.
Haven't played it on account of rootkit issue.
Has anybody? Is it just destiny hype again?
