Really the redditors have done way more egregious shit than simply pushing false MSM narratives against people they don't like and then memory holed it after
As the others have outlined, Boston marathon was bombed, Reddit tried to work out who did it and failed spectacularly.
Reddit ended up going with a kid that had been missing for a while at the time of the run, kid was later found dead for unrelated reasons however the "investigation" by Reddit put an already extremely anxious family through even worse because instead of their kid just being missing the news/social media was now claiming their kid was a terrorist who had bombed a marathon.
Redditors "investigated" and concluded a particular young man did dunnit.
"We did it Reddit!"
Nope! It turns out it was a pair of middle eastern youths.
Aforementioned particular young man turns up dead. Perhaps he killed himself before being accused of a terrorist attack? Perhaps? He was mentally fragile before being believed a mad bomber, terrorist by millions.
I don't have any links, but the gist is this: Redditors tried to do the 4chan Investigator thing to identify the Boston Bomber from the Boston Marathon in 2013. They screwed it up so badly that they identified zero people involved in actually doing the bombing and pointed fingers at 100% innocent bystanders. They were then attacked and harassed by said redditors in typical fashion. The phrase "We did it, Reddit!" became a meme afterward, which was a comment posted in one of their "investigation" threads after they thought they had figure it out.
Once the real investigation started and the police realized all the "tips" they were getting about the identity of the bomber(s) were just from a bunch of retard redditors and they started pointing fingers at the two muslim kids that were actually involved, there was a monumental sweeping-under-the-rug of all their "investigations" and everyone pretended they didn't do it. It is my hope that Internet Historian or Fredrik Knudsen does a video on it sometime.
Boston Bomber fuckup comes to mind.
We did it, Reddit!
