You're vastly overestimating his political appeal (and the results speak for themselves when he's getting fucking Nikki Haley numbers, who is literally just Indian Hilary Clinton)
This election campaign showed he has negative charisma.
This sort of circular firing squad helps no one.
Considering trustworthiness is a major issue in the Republican party, it damn well is helpful. Right now I trust DeSantis only mildly more than the obvious snakes, and he did that to himself.

There's a Leviathan soaking up all the votes, many of which would otherwise go to DeSantis.

I have pointed that out from the beginning, which is why I think he wasn't ready this time around. He should hone his skills for 2028.

That is just bitterness. If you look at his record, it's as if the candidate was made in a laboratory to be liked by you.
When Desantis went to Israel to sign a bill criminalizing speech, he showed himself to be a standard Neocon. No mere speech can or should be criminalized in the US, and no governor of a state should be taking a trip to a foreign country to sign a bill.
He showed he wasn't a lolbertarian. He shouldn't have signed it in Israel, but these people should be discriminated against. Anyone who would use their discretionary powers to aid the Arab war effort is coming after you next.

His record isn't terrible, but far from perfect.
Supporting lockdowns, tax increases on the middle class, and wars abroad (especially that cringe Ukraine shit)?
Not to mention his suspicious political ties, plus his sheer incompetence at running a political campaign and terrible fund management really makes me doubt his ability to control, well, anything on the economic front, especially on a national level.
In early 2020, nearly everyone - including Trump - supported lockdowns, and for far longer than DeSantis.
Dunno about the tax increases.
Re: Ukraine. He had the right instinct, in saying that he didn't want to get involved in a border dispute in the east of Ukraine. The backtracking made me suspicious too that he is a closet neocon, but it was probably just the fact that the anti-neocon vote was already locked up by Trump. I bet he will make his anti-neocon position far more obvious in 2028 as Trump's successor.
Most pro-Trump like him, and the rest will come around if Trump endorses him in 2028.

In 2000, GOP could choose between Bush and McCain. If you don't like either Trump or DeSantis, just imagine what a gem he is compared to that.

At least Desantis didn't support the creation of the vaccines in the first place.
