Everything past Frieza saga is non-cannon.
Fight me.
DB should have ended and died when/after Goku died.
The second time, I mean, in the Cell Games.
Torch was passed to Gohan, redemption was sort of achieved by Vegeta, Gohan's dad saw him grown up despite Gohan only being 12 at the time and his dad in this situation being Piccolo because Goku doesn't count. Power levels hadn't gone quite so crazy yet, or been nerfed to something stupid like having Krillen of all people beat an out of practice Gohan because "training".
It even could have continued after that with Gohan being a goofy idiot in his Great Saiyaman gimmick and gone back to a semi-comedy series, which is what it felt like the next saga was leading to before Buu was introduced.
Iirc that was the original plan by Toriyama. The Cell Games were the end of the series and like you said it completed Gohan's journey just as Dragon Ball completed Goku's. However the editors and money people didn't want their most lucrative franchise to end so we got the Buu Saga and everything after.
It makes sense in hindsight because that whole saga is so unfocused and goes in so many directions til about Super Buu-Kid Buu. He told the story he wanted to tell and didn't know where to go next.
IMHO Cell Saga ends the best for dragon ball, went full circle with Gohan also who I really liked. After that no thanks.
I can definitely see the argument for the Cell Saga being the conclusion, but everything within the Saiyan saga and the Frieza saga was pretty clearly leading up to a climactic showdown between the space tyrant and the legendary Super Saiyan. You mix in the planet melting down and the obvious finish is that they both die along with the planet, their fight continuing uninterrupted to the very end, bringing a conclusion to the legend.
