So I had to reorganize my massive “books I have to read” mountain and I was going over all the Star Trek books I’ve accumulated (Enterprise era and prior) at yard sales, half price books, and small conventions. What would be considered the “Heir to the Empire” of the Star Trek EU? I have the Titan book and the one Shatner helped write that brings back Kirk along with many others.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated
The Kobayashi Maru by Julia Ecklar. TOS era book which goes into how Kirk, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov all dealt with the scenario, before the reboot movie made it retarded.
Sounds interesting
Andrew Robinson wrote a Garak-centric book called A Stitch In Time.
I doubt it falls into the 'heir to the empire' category, but two I had on audiobook a while back were 'The Klingon Way' and 'Legends of the Ferengi' - both delving into the philosophy of their respective cultures. Really interesting stuff.
Sounds good! Thanks!
I used to read the TNG books in hs. They were good.
I have some of those. Can’t wait to check them out
I just downloaded a book club app. I haven't used it, but I thought I'd suggest that so you can chat about the book.
Thanks!
The Q Continuum trilogy: Q-Space, Q-Zone, and Q-Strike, in that order.
They might all be in an omnibus now.
They take place on the Enterprise-E, between the Voyager episodes "The Q and the Grey" and "Q2." This is a plot point.
They resolve a lot of the stranger plot devices from TOS and the movies--ever wonder what that entity at the end of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier was all about? You'll find out in those books...
I have an Enterprise book but I remember reading that had it not been cancelled Trip and Tpol would’ve been together and in the books that happens and they have a child. I need to get the Q stories. I’ve seen them at the bookstore but wasn't sure if they had to be read in a certain order
Imzadi. It's about the love story between Riker and Troi.
Shadows On the Sun. TOS era, delves into McCoy and his history, and why he's a curmudgeon. (Abrams movies stole a lot of ideas from this.)
I love the bickering between Spock and McCoy in TOS. Also love Mccoy’s cameo at the beginning of TNG
I remember reading a Star Trek book about these aliens that had some weird ship with a warp drive that seriously messed with real space, and the aliens all had these little voodoo doll things. Kirk had to trick them into stabbing themselves or something.
I don't remember what it was called though.
The Lost Years series of TOS novels were good, covering the events before the first Star Trek movie.
Additionally, I remember Death Count and Shell Game as being particularly enthralling.
Thanks!!!
Thanks!
Was there anymore depth than what the movie had?
