There's still a huge segment of the population who HATE Trump and will NEVER vote for him no matter what. Biden can be on video helping Hunter get away with gun crimes and making backdoor deals to China while he's molesting his own daughter and they'll still vote for him over orange man because he bad.
Immigration becoming a big issue is a boost for Trump though.
The problem with Trump is almost everyone has a formed an opinion on him, there's not really anyone on the fence with him and the strength of those feelings is far more on the anti side. The people who hate him seem to really hate him, they'd vote for the reanimated corpse of Hitler regardless of how shitty Joe turned things or how bad immigration is.
You're forgetting, RFK Jr is running on a spoiler ticket by saying he's in favour of reparations etc, the Trump hate voters will vote for him instead because it's WAY easier to justify voting for a Kennedy than voting for Biden.
RFK is going to take away more votes from Trump than Biden, and many Trump haters hate him too because he's "anti-vax"
I've never seen anyone who makes this argument establish exactly which segments of the population have grown to hate Trump since 2016 who didn't before then. The idea that, for example, he's done something to alienate female Boomers who weren't already turned off by "Grab em right in the pussy" is ludicrous. The only people I've seen turn against Trump in the years since 2016 are the Conservative Inc and neocon "influencers" who only supported him to begin with because they're a bunch of ambulance-chasing grifters, and hitched their ride to DeSantis because Trump didn't provide them with the attention or compensation they felt they deserved.
