I'd heard nothing about this, but looking into it briefly...it sounds like another case of two scumbags who probably deserve each other. Sounds like he's an egotistic, manipulative prick with no impulse control and delusions of grandeur. And by all accounts his girlfriend started the physical altercation, grabbed his phone and attacked him, and was hurt while he was trying to take it back. And they both sound like woke activists; him the more BLM-side, her a feminist victim.
Even though he does seem a scumbag, I can't help but feel bad for him too; he was treated unfairly by the system. Heck, I don't think the courts belong in this at all. She grabbed him and his property first (while claiming she lived in fear of him), he hit her (and it's worth noting that the court didn't even find him guilty of intentional harm.) Neither should have happened, but it feels bad for the initial victim of the altercation to be the one to go down legally, primarily because he's a man.
Again, both sound scummy, but doesn't mean the ruling was correct.
