I just fucking know this shit is coming to the UK...
It's already there.
...and simply being a game dev...
How do you know if someone is a game dev?
Don't worry, they'll tell you!
JK, love you. ;)
...that doesn't do pronouns is going to get you put in jail for fuck's sake lol ;_;
We're not there...yet. Yet. It is, absurdly, a very real worry, though. And I find it utterly mind boggling - and this is coming from someone who hates the government - just how worried and afraid UK residents should be of their own governments. Canada, and Australia, have you guys beat for now, but it's a tight race.
I'll just put this out there, if it ever comes up, vote down "assisted" "suicide" as hard as you can. It's sad but hilarious that government murder of its citizens is now a hallmark of Canadianism.
I'll probably calm down a lot once I've left the country.
Nice, you're escaping?! Where are you going?
I fucking refuse to see my tax money...
Taxation is, unironically, theft. Also indirect violence, since it's usually turned back around to hurt the taxpayer. Taxation is not only theft, but metaphorical battery and rape too. Fuck taxes.
...I'd sooner move to some African country than deal with any of that shit but as I've mentioned before South America generally is where I'm potentially aiming.
Yikes. Good luck, South/Africa sounds pretty fucking dangerous, but I'm sure there are safer zones. Just don't be a farmer, I guess? And never relax.
From the sound of it the Conservatives aren't much better anyway. It's pretty bad if they're so pozzed that the left isn't bothering to cheat them out of elections. As bad as the Republicans are at least they haven't reached that point. The flip side is they'll never be allowed to take real power again.
Something we can do about it is to mock Canada/UK whenever it comes up.
"Oh you're from Canada? Canada's nice I guess but don't you wish you had free speech?" "We have free speech, it's in the Charter!!" "No I mean like actual free speech like the 1st Amendment not pretend free speech".
It should be so annoying that Canadians don't even mention their country because they'll get shamed for no free speech.
I'd wager that 95%+ of leftists actually believe Canada has free speech.
Example: the wikipedia articles on the Charter say they have so much free speech it's even more than America. Completely and purposely ignoring the very first Section that states ALL their rights (not just free speech) are subject to "reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society".
America: 'no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press'
Canada: 'no rights if there's a law against, but maybe if the law is ridiculous you can have your "rights" back'
Their prime directive is that laws supersede their rights unless unreasonable. They only have reasonable rights rather than inalienable ones (ie actual rights).
Everything they've ever seen said Canada has free speech and they've never even thought about it. They honestly believe they have free speech and reading that Canada doesn't is shocking to them. That's why it's effective, it's like throwing cold water on them.
Yeah, as a Canadian I'd endorse it but they've done such an effective blitz on turning freedom into a dirty word it'd be pretty much spitting in the wind at this point.
Sir, this is Canada.
It's already there.

True, but do it anyway!
