I personally love it, I think the whole deferred money situation is ridiculous but also hilarious, but I’m curious what the people here think of it.

I just hate the "It's too much money!" "Something has to be done about this!" comments that are coming from supposed right wing people.
This is not tax payer money. Its coming from a 4.8 billion dollar franchise. Do these people seriously want some kind of rule that pays the players less and allows the owners to pocket more of the profit these players generate?
The other three major sports leagues in the US do have salary caps, but there’s still powerhouse teams there, so idk. I personally just think there’s more cheap MLB owners than anything.
There will always be a divide between rich and poor owners, even in salary capped leagues. MLB has a serious issue where there are too many owners that outright refuse to spend and it seriously damages the sport. They need a salary floor badly. Dodgers, more than having the money to spend, actually wanted to spend it on him to make the Japan dollar (and also improve the team so that they can all-but guarantee yearly 100+ win disappointments in the postseason).

The cheap owners hate the idea of a floor, the MLBPA absolutely refuses to entertain the idea of a cap unless the owners agree to a floor, so here we are today. The MLBPA is the strongest athlete’s union for a reason.
I have no problem with players making their money, or refusing to get a cap without a floor, it's the cheap owners refusing to make the product even okay that ruins my taste of the sport. I love watching the college world series, but I don't really care about MLB other than score watching the postseason.

I can't wait to see how the league restructures the rules to prevent contracts like this from happening again.
See, for me the deferred money makes a lot of sense when you look at where he came from. Him/trout were making a ton of money on an angels team that was doing fuck all for the last 5-10 years, and refused to add a supporting cast behind him. I think he realized that his career will mean nothing without a world series win, so he chose to push the money back/live off of endorsements and have them build a superteam.
