Don't think CDProjekt did any prerendered fakery. The release was just incomplete on many levels and had skipped features.

I think some people have too short of a memory if they forgot all the lies. This video shows what was advertised and not delivered. From Crowbat.
There is little functional difference between a pre-rendered trailer and a massively touched-up “vertical slice” that has been rendered “in game engine”. Both serve to wildly misrepresent the final product.
