This is the correct answer. The only thing these people care about is themselves. And I don't mean their "racial affinity groups" -- I mean literally themselves. Their entire modus operandi is to show that they're the best, most correct person, with the Correct Opinions about Current Thing and the most accepting, repressively-Tolerant, and good attitudes towards everyone else that also has the Correct Opinions about Current Thing.

They see words and communication as a method of gaining power, not for exchanging information. This is just a direct example of that. "I will have power over you because I am Good and you are not Good."
