Many Christians pull-away from any true improvement in this world because they don't see the outcome of this world as the world that matters.
This is a strictly American Protestant problem. Historically, Christianity was not obsessed with endtime philosophy. In fact, stewardship of this world is the reason mankind was given life. Taking dominion in the name of God is our purpose. Turning away from that purpose has horrific consequences, as can be clearly seen today.
