Just a simple question. I heard that HBO has let GRRM go due to the strike and according to him, he has written 75% of the book. If I was his publisher I’d be so annoyed with him. Had he finished the series prior to the end of the show it would’ve made a ton of money. At this point I’d try to convince him to let someone else finish it.
Anyway what is a game that we will most likely never see? I’ve heard Half Life and I want to say Elder Scrolls 6 but they insist that will be out
What is Star Citizen supposed to be about?
Star Citizen is a game about crowdfunding for Star Citizen. ;)
Lol. Understand
Space in a sci fi setting, they started with exploration, fights and couriering goods but they keep slapping so much additional 'we'll have this next who knows if it'll EVER release
It's actually released now. I've got close to a thousand hours in.
The other answers are good enough but just to give you more context, the lead dev Chris Roberts is famous for his work at Origin Systems creating the Wing Commander and Privateer games. These were praised at the time for cinematic story, branching plot points, and for what was at the time an almost simulation-level of detail of what flying a space fighter might be like. Though physics-wise it was more like a jetfighter, it had tons of little details in how you control the ship and in Privateer places you could go in the galaxy. It really did immerse you into the feel of being a pilot with his own ship in a future universe where mankind has discovered a network of FTL slipstreams around the galaxy.
Star Citizen was originally only supposed to be new version of Privateer - about owning your own ship and exploring the galaxy for fame and fortune. Living a fantasy life in a "space simulation". Not unlike Elite Dangerous if you're familiar with that. The first kickstarter campaign wasn't even going to have landing on planets. Planets would have been a menu screen like in the original game. Then the developers did backer polls and started promising items from the community wishlist and the scope creep became larger than the game universe itself. (which is why it's hard for me to commit to calling it an outright "scam" - people did keep asking for more)
Had it released on a timely schedule they would have been given accolades for an impressive roster of features compared to other games at the time. Now if it ever releases at all people will just be like "oh that's nice but game X already does that".
Sounds like a cool game. Maybe Starfield will be something like that
Absolutely, with mods, as long as you don't need multiplayer.
In the beginning of development Bethesda promised "NASA physics" but it's clear they have now moved away from the "realism" angle and we'll basically have space magic. So it's Skyrim in space. I'm sure someone will mod it to be more of a space simulator.
Nah, there's no atmospheric flight in Starfield, so if you want a cool Fallout-in-space experience with some occasional dogfighting, then Starfield is your jam, but you'll never get moments like this in Starfield...
