In Europe several mainstream and government media outlets and politicians have switched to reporting surface temperatures instead of air temperatures. Surface temperatures are around 10-20°C higher than air temperatures which makes it seem like things suddenly got worse.
For example they've been reporting up to 48°C (118.4°F) for Southern Europe. Of course they obfuscate that what they are reporting is basically fraudulent.
The temperature of the mantle of the earth is in the thousands of degrees today!
Don't worry. It's currently ventilating through Iceland.
The news is making a big to do about the southwest being super hot right now. Yuma is mentioned a lot. At no point do they talk about Yuma being hot anyway, and what a normal summer heat looks like. I'm wondering how they will respond to news about the monsoons.
I also suspect there is more obfuscation going on. Arizona was unliveable until AC. Everyone has the number to an AC fix it guy. All of the articles say that Arizona will be way hotter and no one will live there in a few years. Phoenix is taking on more and more Californians and others, so a national call to not move there because of heat seems a bit suspicious for reasons beyond global warming.
Arizona might end up too hot to live in if they keep electing Democrat leaders and taking on Californians who enact the same failed policies and can't maintain a stable energy grid.
That is a possibility. The problem is whether Arizonans are electing them or not.
Norwegian media has the map with north Africa and southern Spain pitch black and transitioning to deep red. Like a lava flow.
