"I'm a half-Asian that grew up in a solid red area and I never thought about race until high school so idk what the director of Elemental is talking about" Silence
"Max Landis seems like a jerk but the accusations against him don't meet the definition of rape" This resulted in a girl getting extremely pissed off so I had to make peace for 15 minutes
"Hunter Biden is obviously laundering money through the painting hobby he started last week" Tepid agreement
"Male and female characters obviously behave differently and you can't just swap them into each other's stories" "Hahaaa I don't know, I just like this character doing her thing"
"Obviously cancel culture exist, we wouldn't be able to have any frank conversations if they were publicized to millions of people" "Yeah fair point" Silence
"If that female pastor is ordained, that's illegal according to church rules" Crossed arms staring at the ceiling
Before a few years ago, I've never had the problem of being too obviously right in political discussions. That's because I used to cling to dumb ideas myself, like the Iraq invasion, but at least I had a little wriggle room (democracy is a good thing for the Middle East! just give it time!). There are too many positions on the left today that are indefensible if you're not a psychopath. I guess I'm thankful my lib friends are still genuine friends and retain a shred of integrity.
A few of my friends lean to the left and I have learned that constantly pushing certain political conversations when it is clear we won't agree will eventually destroy my friendships with them.
I have convinced my left leaning friends that the left is currently pushing transgenderism in schools and that it is going way too far and that trans surgeries for kids are horrific ideas. I have also gotten them to agree that the mainstream media is constantly pushing propaganda and that feminism gives women way too many advantages. My friends are Asian like me and they agree that the left pushing affirmative action and DEI is horrific. They don't like the leftists pushing cancel culture and silencing people for opinions. They don't want to see Biden vs Trump as the two nominees in 2024 which I definitely agree with them on.
It is not too bad in terms of finding common ground.
Talking about COVID, gun control and Trump is where their otherwise sane opinions goes to hell. They refuse to acknowledge the ramifications of the lockdowns and how shitty the COVID vaxxes are. They still think gun control can help reduce gun violence despite seeing statistics of how gun free zones leads to more gun fatalities. They also really want to see Trump rotting away or receiving the death penalty and I disagree with them on that.
Why are Asians in America so left leaning and heavily Democrat? (except Vietnamese, in my experience)
I can help shed some light on this.
One aspect is that Asians in America are vastly more educated than any ethnic group. We both know that academia has been completely taken over by leftist extremists.
Too many of my fellow Asian Americans have foolishly fallen for leftist propaganda in academia.
Another problem is that the Republican party has the stigma of being seen as the White/racist party. Donald Trump becoming the flagbearer of the party has certainly hurt the GOP with Asians. The GOP will definitely improve with Asians somewhat as soon as the nominee is not Donald Trump.
Most Asians have no respect for Trump's abrasive and often unintelligent manner of speaking.
They care a lot about optics.
I have personally seen much more racism from the left when I disagree with them than from the right.
The only actual racists I have interacted with on the right are the delusional White nationalists/groypers who think it is possible to form a white ethnostate. They are a tiny minority of powerless individuals screaming into the void. The left paints the entire right using this small set of clowns.
Meanwhile, the left will say you are not even a minority if you oppose any of their orthodoxies.
The Vietnamese are an exception because they fled a communist shithole and are staunchly anti-communist. Other Asian groups don't generally share that anti-communist experience.
Koreans, Indians, Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, Pakistanis, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankans are all sadly very left-leaning.
My left leaning Asian American friends dislike Biden and they said they will not ever vote for him again UNLESS Trump is the GOP nominee again in 2024.
We just need enough normies to not vote for Biden. Normies staying home is all we need to win 2024.
Normies will disturbingly come out in droves for Biden if Trump is the nominee again.
My friends don't like DeSantis much and they won't ever vote for him but in a Biden vs DeSantis race, they have said they will not go vote.
These people certainly dislike Biden but they absolutely hate Trump on a visceral level.
Trump's manner of speaking and his optics are frankly disgusting to educated voters.
This is sadly the state of the normies.
We can hate the normies all we want but winning is what we should prioritize.
We must adapt or we will lose.
We can beat Biden with DeSantis or with Youngkin or with even Tim Scott. We won't be beating him with Trump in 2024.
The choice is clear. Do we want to beat Biden with a different candidate or do we want to lose and then blame it on voter fraud because we nominated Dem lightning rod Donald Trump?
Yeah, I've been harping on election integrity for a while, but I simply can't deny that Biden got at least 75 million votes. My god, every single communist basically voted Joe Biden. 3rd Party Turnout fucking vanished. 85 million? Hell no. 75 million? No question.
They want the President to be a "Head of State" figure, more than a "Head of Government" one. They want him to be a stoic, eloquent, patient leader. Trump comes off as none of those things, though he is significantly less bombastic than he was in 2016 (which is what surprised a lot on the right). He is trying to win over more normies.
You made our "fringe" belief in a white ethnostate that much more compelling. If Asians as a majority can't even side with milquetoast gop whites what chance do we have of getting them to actually repect us and our home on real terms? What do we have to gain with more people that want to take our 2nd amendment and support more communism. Asians can leave our country since it's clear they don't respect our founding constitutional values.
Multiculturalism has failed.
You don't have a white ethnostate and you never did.
White isn't even an ethnic group.
You should probably stop living in an explicitly and intentionally philosophically Liberal country.
I can only assume this is because the anti-communist Koreans didn't immigrate.
Everybody who fought in Vietnam knows how fucking brutal the South Korean Marines were to the NVA and VC.
Even the anti-communist chinese are complete bugs and boot licker collectivists. I don't want to live in a place run like Singapore any more than I want to live in a place run by ISIS or Latin Americans.
We are not the same, and just because Asians don't commit so many crimes and other model minority stuff doesn't mean we're all getting along.
I don't know if this is cause or effect, but around here they found opportunity in the Democrat party. I don't know if Republicans drove them off or what that would be about, but where you see the organized Asian politicians is in that party. They have some pull, though not as much as the blacks.
That's a really impressive list actually. I gave you some heat this week but apparently you're more reasonable in real life than on this board. I would guess they also bring up politics from time to time because there's no way you could've gained ground on all those issues if you were the only one talking about them.
Because they're Asians I'd also guess that most of them have fairly traditional parents who might vote Democrat, but at least grounded their psyches in reality enough that they can't get full blown brain rot.
The friend group I'm talking about used to have more political conversations, but that was before Biden got really demented. Now we just talk about pop culture stuff as if this was 2012 and politics is a sideshow. I think there's a certain level of embarrassment there. The closest we get is discussions of fictional characters and how movies and TV are sliding down into decadent hell, and while they get uncomfortable about anything that touches on race-swapping, nobody champions diversity.
Also one guy that served as sort of a realist conduit disappeared behind the Great Firewall of China. I hope nobody found VPN on his computer or something.
Interesting, do they acknowledge the virus was engineered?
Well fucking duh.
You have to be much more subversive. You can always find the points where you agree, and work from there.
They are literally emotionally conditioned to be triggered in response to you saying anything that is counter to the narrative. They are emotionally dependent upon their politics. You have to let them undermine their own positions.
