I can't speak for other mods but the one making the complaint involved posting fruits and vegetables that could be construed as sexual to keep all the posts NSFW but avoid posting porn. That's what they nailed them for trying to approve.
Might just be one of the reasons mods get banned or he got caught up in the clusterfuck.
I visited a subreddit that was linked somewhere in those discussions (IIRC r/interestingasfuck) and it was 80% people complaining about porn and 20% porn. Which I found odd until I saw a comment in the archived thread above that mods were encouraging people to post porn to formerly SFW subs in protest.
As I understand it, these mods encouraged posting porn in SFW communities which is why they're being taken out back.
