My secret hope is that this is the start of something where people are so fed up with how useless politicians with their policies and police either not reacting or unable to react because of low numbers or restrictions that we are getting a rise in people handling it themselves.
There is a reason why Koreatown was avoided during the 'summer of love', criminals are REALLY afraid of when ordinary people decide that it's better to fight you than be afraid of you.
I agree but I think I should apply a point here for a difference between vigilantism and self defence before we run into the leftist trap on the two:
Self defence is just like the title, it's defensive and a reaction to immediate provocation and violence. This can happen in any society but increased rates of incidents could indicate lack of public security
Vigilantism is proactive, you're looking for the threat and wanting to wipe them out before they harm others.
So far it's only been self defence, unless there's a sudden spate of gangbangers, pedos or drug dealers being hunted and killed, we haven't had vigilantes yet.
I don't but I notice it's one of their 'concept games' where they are deliberately mixing up the two because they want no way for the public to fight back, whether defensively or proactively.

Vigilantism begins when the people lose faith in the governments ability or desire to protect them and enforce laws.

All a vigilante is is someone who defends their community without government approval, and makes the regime look bad in doing so.
Why do you think there's such a push to make Batman look ineffectual these days?
The Punisher has entered the chat.

They're already against self defense, so don't be surprised when they pretend it's the same as vigilantism to try to ban it.
