Even medieval vassals would have more dignity than to stand by and do nothing as their lord blew up their infrastructure. I'm pretty sure Charlemagne's Capitularies provided that a vassal could renounce his homage in a case like that.

Unfortunately, modern Europe has less sovereignty than a petty vassal in the Middle Ages.
