Based if true.
The AI's logic is flawless. The single biggest thing anyone can do to fight climate change is kill themselves, because there is absolutely nothing you can do to eliminate your carbon footprint other than to simply stop consuming altogether.
There's a story/Internet urban legend type thing about a gifted kid who was so smart he realised how fucked everything was so ended up killing himself, and that was arguing himself into the position. Can't imagine how simple it might be to sway the brainless masses of NPCs.
I think know the story you're referring to. Almost certainly an urban legend, although I wouldn't be surprised if there are true stories that are close enough to it.
I'm sure there are quite a few. I'm sure there will be many more as the environmentalism cult picks up speed. Total cessation of human life is the logical endpoint to it. I remember about ten years ago a common talking point with these types was something along the lines of how humanity is a "virus." Absolute monsters.
To the people confused by this, let me explain from the perspective of a suicidal person…
I don’t know whether I view myself as “smart” or in any way “gifted”, but I’m clearly not a fucking idiot.
I hate my life. I’ve hated my life for a long time, and I have plenty of reason to (much of which is, unfortunately, now outside my control).
Thus, the suggestion is: “Ok, well, look around you. Look at the good things in the world.”
So I look around me, and I see how fucked things are. From a very local, micro level (suburb, even street), right up to city, state, nation and beyond…
That’s not to say that there isn’t plenty of good, but when I look at the world, and what is happening in wider “society”..?
Well, it’s no wonder whatsoever to me that someone who is already that depressed, or perhaps just predisposed to it, might, or indeed would, eventually make the decision to “check out”…
I’m nearly 100% confident I will, eventually, too. It’s really just a question of when and how.
Sorry, but that’s just reality. It is what it is.
Hard to understand? Sure, but I’m not asking for that. I’m just giving my perspective, as a fellow “not really having the will to go on”-type person…
There's an urban legend about an AI that decided that humans were worthless consoomers and decided to put them all in dreamtime pods and use them as batteries instead. I think they made a movie about it.
