Yeah, there's an interesting theory to that I once heard by some PhD genealogist or whatever the science is...
Basically, he believed that people essentially have a beta/alpha, weak/strong or whatever other duality you wanted to use "gene" that guided their predisposition towards acting in certain ways. Throughout most of history, people with the strong gene had dominance in society because the people with the weak gene (especially men), died off due to harsher living conditions, working conditions and resource distributions that tended to favor strong over weak.
With modern technology, especially in the areas of sanitation and medicine as well as general economic leading to less harsh conditions, the humans with the beta gene started gaining more prominence in society. The beta/weak gene always outnumbered the strong one if you tracked overall births but the harsh living conditions always kept a check on the beta population. Now that check was beginning to be removed and today we see no check in place with anyone with any disability being taken care of by the State. This rise in beta people is why led to the rise in liberalism because liberalism is inherently a beta ideology.
Now others have tried to frame this before as slave moraliry people vs. master morality people like Nietzsche or perhaps discussing the bourgeoisie and proletariat or the merchant caste, warrior caste and slave caste etc... But no one truly discusses why there's such a prominence for the weaker castes today and I liked the idea that it's because of how much easier life is. This is most definitely another dynamic that has been at play for sure. You can see how in pourer countries, all this "woke" nonsense is cared about very little.
Liberalism is an individualist, minoritarian ideology. It's promoted by the ruling class to morally justify their rule. In order to retain legitimacy, it has to simulate the extension of individual rights to others. Hence, it spawns movements to do things like expand suffrage, including women's suffrage.
And it sounds like a great deal to people who actually have very limited individual sovereignty, ironically. That's why weak people like liberalism because it's in theory, giving them "power" when they actually have no power or deserve no power either.
But you are correct, the ruling class uses it to justify their rule but only weak people would buy such a justification.
People will buy the justification as long as their lives are stable or even better, improving. That's stalling now.
An ideology's legitimacy stems from its perceived ability to handle crisis. Liberalism isn't doing that well anymore so it is beginning to lose credibility. Since it has no answers, it can only cling to legitimacy by silencing its critics, violating its own stated principles in the process and thus getting stuck in a feedback loop of a credibility death spiral.
Liberalism is based in the teachings of Jesus Christ and was always intended to keep governments from interfering with the personal relationship between each human and God.
It fails when people prioritize liberalism over the Word.
For example, feminism runs counter to scripture and so should never have been allowed under Liberalism. Same with gay marriage, the whole tranny thing, even allowing pornography as "speech".
Everyone always forgets that Liberalism is only justified by the fact that God created us in his image and we each have a personal covenant with him.
If we're working in an atheistic "we're all mechanistic automatons" framework, Liberalism makes no sense because we're no different from anyone else and should all be forced to bend to the most powerful authority.
Similar for Muslim and Judaic religions; they're tribal and believe they are special to God bjt everyone else is a slave; neither should be tolerated in a Liberal society.
Liberalism isn't failing because it's a weak ideology, it's failing (just like every other ideology these days) because everyone has the idea that God is obsolete.

Comment Approved: "Beta" genetics could actually be a violation, but I don't think there's enough here to say that having "beta" genetics makes you a moral inferior.
