It's marketing more than anything else. They saw Lady Dimitrescu sell millions of copies of RE8 and realized that fanmade porn is free marketing

And that's why I was very confused by the new Ratchet & Clank. The lead artist was gloating that they managed to stop people from pushing to have Rivet be sexy.

Honestly, if I ran a gave developer I would pay artists online to make porn of my game right before the launch.
