In public, my friend goes along with the narrative 100% and gets visibly angry when I speak heresy. In private, he makes fun of trannies and uses their real names and pronouns.
It is absolutely a defense mechanism for almost everyone who isn't a woman under the age of 30.
I don't approve of it, but I do understand. All it takes is being caught on camera saying YWNBAW and you're unhireable in almost every field for at least a couple years. We're both in comp sci, which is riddled with trannies. If word ever got out how I really feel about them, my only option would be to learn Chinese.
I can totally relate and sympathize with an up and coming professional having to virtue signal just to survive in clown world, but what did you mean by this?
my friend... gets visibly angry when I speak heresy
Is that in private or in public? Have you asked why he is reacting that way? If you feel free to "speak heresy" then he should get enough of a confidence boost in your presence to do the same (or just smile and nod) - unless he looks down on you and would prefer to be friends with other fake people.
I can't tell if he's just really good at pretending to be mad at le heckin transphobia or if he's mad at me risking revealing our power level, but he's definitely not happy when I do it.
He's also in a position to lose much more if he gets unpersoned, whereas I'm really not. There's no way he's ever going to be open with his beliefs, at least not while troons are the de facto priesthood class.

I dunno man. I couldn't be friends with someone like that.

You ever think the reason why it's not acceptable is because everyone thinks it's not acceptable?
Guarantee more than half the people around you think the same, and nobody has the balls to say it.
It doesn't matter if more than half the people agree with me. What matters is if the people in power do, and they don't.
I’m not losing my fucking job because some mentally ill faggot can’t handle reality. And that’s the place we are in as a society.
At work, I play the game. But everyone who knows me outside of work knows that I’m mocking these faggots daily.
Work the arts scene in Seattle. You learn it well.
