He was going to be Superman until Gunn took over and changed everything to a younger Superman origin story so he could reboot everything again.
There isn't any evidence that Gunn hates Cavill, and Gunn's reason for doing what he did makes sense even though the fans disagree with it.
Personally I'm glad he won't be Superman so he can work on superior things like 40k instead of dumb normie shit like Superman.
Hopefully his 40k show ends up being good and doesn't get assfucked by another woke hack showrunner.
