Does knowing that X is dead change how you view the plot? Almost certainly.
Does knowing X and Y had sex rather than dry-humping in an airplane bathroom change the plot? Probably not.
There are exceptions for everything, of course. I recall a scene in Borgias where the pope and a few of his cardinals had to watch his daughter have sex with her new husband to make sure the marriage was legally consumated. But stuff like that is exceedingly rare and most movies gain nothing from playing out the scenen other than the porn factor.
