You can't just move one of the most complicated industrial processes there is.
There is decades of expertise and supporting infrastructure in Taiwan, and this to say nothing of how control of Taiwan would increase China's capacity to project force in the region. Giving Taiwan to china would also be giving them this industry.
You say that, but all the pissing and shitting about high car and GPU prices due to the chip shortage say otherwise. You'll be begging the government to seize the means of production nationalize the chips industry to stop their "price gouging."
BTW, you're getting a war, regardless. Much like our Boomer leaders, the US Empire would rather drag everyone to hell with them than go gentle into that good night. No empire dies without a fight.
Guess who makes all your semiconductors for Intel and AMD.
who allowed them to move production out of the country in the first place?
It's called 'free enterprise'
If TSMC wants the United States to protect its fabs it should locate those fabs in the United States.

Not if you blow it all up as you leave...
Taiwan has the benefit of being a developing country with low-cost and high-IQ labor.
The US, on the other hand, has high-cost and low-IQ labor, due to government intervention and divershitty hires.
Expect higher prices and lower quality once Taiwan is removed from the board.
I'll take more expensive electronics over a ruinous multi trillion dollar war, thank you very much.

Maybe they shouldn't try to cut costs by sourcing from a country that unstable.
