It's not even a rivalry. The news wants it to exist, so they look for things to prove it true.
They would LOVE a rivalry, both media and right/left establishment to create infighting and scupper both Trump and any future Desantis run...
...but so far Desantis isn't taking the bait, so it's looking like they'll throw all the guys MAGA people hate (Pence, Bolton etc) to the grinder of a nomination 'fight'

I think Trump wants that too. He loves the attention, and they are otherwise silent about his run. I wouldn't be surprised if his people are pushing Trump v. DeSantis.
