the unconscious transfer of one's own desires or emotions to another person.
"we protect the self by a number of defense mechanisms, including repression and projection"
Projection is taking an image inside a device (or a person), and projecting it outwards. Like a projector, for film. In political or debate definitions, it is a position someone holds, an image they have within of themselves, that they project onto the world at large.
In example on the pro-left-wing side, the priest who goes on rants about how gays are seductive to innocent straight people turns out to not be so straight: he projects his attraction to the feelings of the populace at large, assuming they're like him. In example on the pro-right-wing side, the Male Feminist who says all men would rape women if given the chance, turns out to be a rapist: He projects his urges and feelings onto the populace at large, assuming they're like him.
Let us apply our learning:
This is a man who went on a tirade about how easily Russians can corrupt people, who it turns out had been corrupted by the Russians, and was projecting his personal experience onto the world at large. Would this be considered "projection"?
This isn't irony, projection, or deflection. They all do it and thought Trump was just as guilty as they were.
So... projection? 🤔
Projection is ignoring/in denial of your own faults and seeing them only in others, whether they actually exist in that person or not. So no.
You're so confident in your wrongness

You are confusing a literal definition with a psychological one.
