Well, I think it is a mixture of getting the message out (wiki articles) and thus it being pushed and that people no longer read as much, the medium of communication has become to listen and watch.
The fun thing is that this should soon become bot infested so we might get a market oversaturation so large that it crashes?
It amazes me how many youtube channels that have millions views are literally nothing more than someone reading wiki articles.
There's also popular channels who do nothing but read reddit posts from groups like ThatHappened.

It's what happens when large numbers of people are effectively illiterate. Sure they can read, but not without much effort, and not very quickly.
